About Us
Development of market economy became a priority for independent
Georgia as it entered the world community and joined number of international
organizations. Special emphasis was placed on the construction of
oil and gas pipelines and the development of transport communications
and respective infrastructure within the "Silk Road" framework.
Foreign investments have created jobs for local population. However,
the country is facing economic crisis and high level of unemployment.
In the existing conditions scientific and technical resources and
capacity is fully underutilized.
The implementation of new projects and ongoing constructions in
the South Caucasus require consideration of environmental concerns
and impact assessments.
In 1999 the Environmental Geological Agency, Ltd (E.G.A.) was
created by the leading professionals of several scientific-research
institutes of the Georgian Academy of Sciences and JSC "Saktskalmsheni".
It aimed to use the great scientific-technical potential, still
available in Georgia.
On November 21, 2000, Ministry of the Construction and Urbanization
of Georgia awarded E.G.A. Ltd. the construction-design License (SLC
#1906).
The Agency comprises of leading scientists particularly in the
field of Earth Sciences and Water Ecology.
Scientific institutions participating in the agency activities
are the following:
- Research Institute of Water Management and Engineering Ecology
at the Georgia Academy of Sciences, which specialized in field
of study of soil erosion problems, engineering hydraulics etc;
- Institute of Geology at the Georgia Academy of Sciences, well
known for its activities in the field of geological sciences and
environmental problems;
- Trust 'Saktskalmsheni' (Engineering-Hydraulic Construction
Organization), well known by implementation of numerous projects
on several rivers of Georgia;
- Georgian Agrarian University, famous for its capability of training
top-level specialists in field of agricultural constructions etc.;
The Agency unites higher-level scientists and experts, academicians,
PhD and Masters of sciences from these scientific-research and construction
institutions.

The Agency methodology is based on the following system: detailed
scientific investigation, elaboration of practical recommendations
on the basis of the acquired data, design and implementation of
the activity.
The Agency has completed the following projects:
- Geohazard status identification and data collection along the
Pipeline
- Quick visual survey (recognition) for the
pipeline corridor; status assessment of erosion slopes, landslides
and tectonic faults;
- Detailed outline of erosion sites of class 4, 5, 6 and topographic
survey of major complicated slopes;
- Soil sampling and grain size analysis;
- Detailed topographic survey of landslides;
- Detailed geomorphologic mapping of the surveyed landslides
and erosion slopes;
- Draw tectonic maps;
- Provide rainfall information;
- Pipeline/River Crossing inspection for pipe exposure risk
identification and quantitative risk assessment.
- Consultancy services for world leading scientists in erosion
and landslides (prof. R. Morgan, dr. M. Hann, prof. P. Fookes,
dr. M. Lee);
- Erosion control design along pipelines;
- Suffosion control design along pipelines;
- Road failure remediation design;
- Construction of slope and galley erosion control measures such
as:
- Double wicker fence check-dams;
- Gabion check-dams;
- Gabion retaining walls;
- Diverter berms;
- Lined (rip-rap) channels;
Human resources are essential to any company aimed to succeed.
Agency can identify all available experts appropriate to the task
in a very short period of time and involve them in the projects.
